The right time to sell a house is when you are ready to move. If your things aren't packed into cardboard boxes and ready to be moved onto a loading truck, then you aren't ready to move. Also, you kind of need some place to move to. You can't exactly sell your house with no place to go. You should have your new house picked out and paid for before you even think about selling your old home. This is actually the most important part. I'm surprised it isn't even in the first post. It would be extremely unfortunate if someone sold his house too early and ended up living on the streets because he sold his house too soon and his offer on the new house got rejected.
