New Mexico Tech will coordinate a project to inject million of tons of carbon dioxide into a sandstone formation that stretches from Colorado through Utah and Wyoming, removing the greenhouse gas from the atmosphere.

Co Burying

Ok this is a new low for us all....no we will not stop pumping oil as we the rich are making to much money so we will spend a fortune to pump it into the rock and hope to resell it to green houses. Perhaps they do have a cheaper way of recycling it into hydro gen and oxygen and are just holding out for tax payer dollars.

The saline aquifers if I understand right will trap the carbon thus creating large pockets of clean gas that can be tapped into and used for a fuel later on. The carbon would eventually build and and perhaps make future coal bads so that seems reasonable. But what about those gases my chemistry is bad so can some one explain the reaction process there for me. and the finial products? (yes I am looking up the answer also.)

I know that thew co2 can be absorbed by a saline solution and reduces the ph balance of the solution but not all co2 is absorbed. Under pressure I would think the absorption rate would be lower...what effect would be seen by lowering the ph balance on the surrounding evironment?
