Are there really discrepancies, or does Prince Vlad have way more power than anyone thought? Vladimir Putin seems intent on remaining in power, regardless of the vote or the law.

Russia has really made no secret that their form of democracy will be and has been different than the typical one that comes to mind and shown in western countries. They have gone too far into capitalism to truly turn back to communism. However, I do see them being more of a socialist democracy. There are things that the government is just not going to give up control of as we have seen through their actions with the Petro companies.
Watching Russia is a lot like watching what is happening to China only Russia is about a decade or two ahead of them... Capitalism has sunk in and that pretty much ended the true communism. However, the socialist aspects of communism are the last to leave or be bent.
They do have a great deal of oil cash now and want to spend it and get some influence in the region. Unfortunately, they havent learned to gift a lot of that cash for future favors and have started throwing a lot of it into the military again. It is needed as they have neglected their military for several years now, but the key is does it become the major consumer of government expeditures year after year like in the good old communist days. That has yet to be seen. If the petro dollars dry up and the economy takes a turn for the worst in Russia (not that it is all the great now), their leaders need to respond to the people. Continued funneling of cash into the military while people are hungry will not go over very well in today's Russia. It truly has changed...it just takes time to get rid of ALL the old habits.
