I am all for attacking the wolves but we have to find them. We do not want to be caught out in the wilds at night if we are charged with protecting the sheep. If we can find where they are holed up we can attack them. I think We all are for that. The biggest factor we have against us is we do not know where they are coming from. This is why I suggested we look to the west and east to see if we can pick up their tracks since we can not find anything south.

Well we can set traps, but this time lets ambush the wolves instead of hiding in the barn.

OK so here is a thought ditch the search completely head back to the farm. Dig this new pit.

Look at the map..

Center of west barn wall go 20 feet to nearest edge dig a pit 40 feet wide with a island 10 feet dia in middle. Tie ewe to a stake short enough rope they can not fall in. Pit 10 foot deep. The pit is only to keep the ewe safe.

This leave some room to fight hand to hand Klar in barn with Daphne Beowolf and Kalfie in trees. We can shoot at what we see. Then if looks good we can enter melee on foot. I think that is suicide. Near dark in the dark trying to fight a wolf. We will be hurt some bad. I say One wolf each or less is acceptable more then that question able. We will be unable to climb back into the trees once we drop. The others can retreat to the barn.

I bet if we kill one or two the rest bolt. Never to be seen again. Please remember our GM is a realist in this fight. Imagine you with a sword and trying to fight a wolf.

I agree it was a thought quickly tossed out but here might be a better option. The intent is to draw beasties in near us even though they can smell us.

We have a look around and see if there is enough poles say 8 to 10 feet in length and we could put the sheep in the middle of a 6 foot circle of these posts. They would be close enough together the wolf can not get in and tall enough they can not jump over instead.

I do not think by just sitting in the tree tops the wolves would come willingly into our sights.

Keep in mind the post has to be 3 foot in ground min unless we lean them in on each other tee pee style. Might be the easier method.

I do really get the feeling the GM wants us to do the battle on the farm. Given the 6 to 8 pm sunset I am sure we are into the later season thus the wolves have no den.

I am getting that sense too. I say dig a 5 foot deep trench in a semi circle leaving a ewe staked in the center by the side of the barn. Having the pit 10 feet wide and sharped stakes at the bottom will help in the fight. Let Beowulf stand by the barn with the ewe to fight any that jump over the pit. The three of us can do what we can in picking off wolves that come around. This will be less digging and easier to set up.

On the left was south so top is east, East side of barn. Have a rope coiled and ready in case Beowolf needs help. So 10 foot wide enclosing a what 15 foot half circle? Ewe stake in middle against barn. That would give Beowolf room to maneuver.

Sounds good I shall post that then.

Post

Seeing that they are having little success in finding tracks in the great vastness they head back to the farm to eat.

Beowolf is thus pacified and the group hopes to restore themselves with food.

A new trench is dug on the East side of the barn. The idea is a half moon shaped island 20 feet across in the west side center a long stake will be driven in and an old ewe ties to it as a lure. Around this island a 5 foot deep 10 foot wide trench is dug. There are wood spike placed in the pit so as to leave only a path for Beowolf to enter the island with the ewe just before evening sets in. Once he is there the rest of the spikes will be placed and the pit covered. On Beowolf's side a clear mark will be such that he will know where not to step.

The rest of the group will head to the barn and shoot any wolves that appear. A rescue rope is knotted and tested for strength to the top of the barn such that if all goes wrong they can rescue Beowolf.

The post sounds good and the theory is sound behind it. We should be able to get a few wolves injured or even killed if things go well for us. I am hoping that tonight will be a good night of hunting.
