Daphne hears the sounds of what seem to be wolves and approaches the window carefully. She knows the old man, Sophia and Beowolf will not be able to help her much so she tries to get the attention of the rest of the group by giving a strong whistle that hopefully, the other two members of the group will hear.
She also takes her lantern and place it in the window towards the direction where her friends are and switches the lantern on and off constantly as a sign that danger is around.
Klar and Kalfie stay up top to keep watch while Beowolf takes a walk along the barn inside looking for holes and possible issues in security. He will also encourage them to bleat a bit more to excite the wolves. If any serious discoveries made Kalfie will join Beowolf and tend to it. Klar will continue watch unless it is wolves then he will join the battle. If the Sheep cause safety issues to the men they will head to higher ground to continue the battle.
Daphne continues to watch from inside and will signal if any issue arises.
At 10:00 if all is quiet Kalfie and Beowolf will sleep. Come 1:00 Am Klar will rest and Kalfie will take watch till 3:00 am as he does not trust beowolf to stay put or Sophia to stay out of the barn. Then if all is quiet all will rest till morning.
The trio wake in the barn stiff from the damp night air but glad the rains are over.
Kalfie goes out to check the rabbit snares and reset them as required followed by the wolf snares.
At the same time the rest will check the pits and reassemble them. If any wolves are caught and the hides look decent they will be skinned. The remains to be buried, the pelt to be hung in the barn.
Once completed they will report the findings to the farmer, eat and prepare to head out for a day of tracking.
Their plan for the day to be explained to the farmer. If Beowolf even hesitates at going, the group will kindly explain to him that Sophia will lose the farm if the wolves are not killed and the sheep made safe. If he still hesitates Kalfie will ask Sophia if that is not the ugly truth of the situation.
Two on a horse they will follow the track as far as they can safely. Their intent is to find the wolf den.
Have Beowulf roll again in the "Beauty 2" roll option to see if he is still charmed. (must get soul amount or under)
Let KNtoran roll under "Rabbit" to see if anything is caught (50/50)
After those rolls post here again accordingly.
Bewolf asks Sophie to ensure either her or her father inquire to the neighbors about seeing wolves in the last two days and informs them of what is going on. They are to report their findings upon return of the group. If they refuse claiming to be too busy klar will investigate at a later time.
The group mounts two to a horse Kalfie to lead. They will follow the tracks that look freshest with the fact that Kalfie knows last time they headed south to the open plains.
Kalfie and klar will ride together in the lead position tracking. Klafie will dismount as required for tracking. Daphne and Beowolf will ride in second on her horse. The group will remain mounted one hour at a time and walk one hour to recuperate the horses while tracking. They will track to a point where they know they can get back to the farm prior dark and also be within a safe boundary from the attack of thieves.
More then displeased with the loss of the tracks the group notes the general trend of the travel the wolves were taking.
With high hopes that the season is early summer/late spring Kalfie suggests a zig zag pattern that would cross back and forth in the general direction the the pack had been traveling.
Drawing on his trapping experience it is explained to the group that the only time the wolves will be not just be roaming for hundreds of miles is if the mother wolf is with cubs. Then they will be looking for a log the den would be dug under or a knoll where the ground dips then rises to hide it. *gulps* Possible it could be in the foot hills of the mountains.
Since they keep returning to this farm he is also hoping they may loiter in the area a bit more, since they have had easy feeding for a time.
The head off keeping the time of day in mind as they are not real fond of sleeping out here for the night.
On the left was south so top is east, East side of barn. Have a rope coiled and ready in case Beowolf needs help. So 10 foot wide enclosing a what 15 foot half circle? Ewe stake in middle against barn. That would give Beowolf room to maneuver.
Sounds good I shall post that then.
Post
Seeing that they are having little success in finding tracks in the great vastness they head back to the farm to eat.
Beowolf is thus pacified and the group hopes to restore themselves with food.
A new trench is dug on the East side of the barn. The idea is a half moon shaped island 20 feet across in the west side center a long stake will be driven in and an old ewe ties to it as a lure. Around this island a 5 foot deep 10 foot wide trench is dug. There are wood spike placed in the pit so as to leave only a path for Beowolf to enter the island with the ewe just before evening sets in. Once he is there the rest of the spikes will be placed and the pit covered. On Beowolf's side a clear mark will be such that he will know where not to step.
The rest of the group will head to the barn and shoot any wolves that appear. A rescue rope is knotted and tested for strength to the top of the barn such that if all goes wrong they can rescue Beowolf.
Once the pit is made the rabbit snares will be checked and supper seen to earlier then the previous night.
