With the popularity of Micrsoft Outlook as an email client, one does not see many offices using Lotus Notes. My company exclusively uses Lotus Notes, and the main advantage I can see its lowered susceptibility to viruses and backdoor trojans vs Outlook. We currently are on Lotus Notes V6. Do you use or are you familiar with the Lotus Notes application? If you are, state your expertise level in using the application, ie User vs Designer vs Administrator.
My company uses Lotus Notes exclusively. I am not a huge fan of it, but the integrated programs and features are nice, including the calendar, address book, to do list, etc.
We have a lot of other applications that work within it, including some fairly complicated databases.
I also see that the biggest advantage of Lotus Notes is the fact that it doesn't have the vulnerabilities of IE or Outlook.
Excellent to hear Nighthawk. I agree that the footprint for Lotus Notes can be large, extremely large. However, I love the ability to use databases within it like you mentioned. I have created and own a couple of databases at my job and it really gives you a lot of flexibility to be able to create your own repository of information. Any features of Notes that you particularly like? I would be interested as I am always trying to learn the ins and outs of Notes so that I can be more proficient.
Other functions of Lotus notes such as database access, community calender, shared address book is now also available under versions of Microsoft Outlook provided that you are connection VIA Exchange server. The community calendar can actually be set up without Exchange however I have found that it has a lot of problems updating properly.
Lotus Notes is exclusively used with my company as well. I am not quite to the administrator level of understanding as I would like to be however the power that I am able to manage within my interface makes my work very proficient. Lotus Notes is not geared towards being an e-mail program but more as a personal workspace for someone to use to organize their time and resources into one screen.
We recently upgraded to Lotus Notes 7. Anyone using this version, and what pros and cons do you find with it?
