Sexually charged ="Mormon's exposed",or there is something mysterious about mormons taking their clothes off (the association between Missionary work and exposing the body). |

QUOTE (Isaiah53) |
I think we LDS are just so scandalized by by sex that we cannot help it. It really is on our minds quite a bit. We really place a lot of attention and mental energy on if. |
QUOTE |
I don't know where you live, but that's not the LDS community I'm familiar with. I do see a lot of ex-Mormons and Anti-Mormons who focus much of their attention on sexual matters and try to throw it in discussions of all kinds with members, but I do not really see it as a hot topic among folks I know in the church. |
QUOTE |
The problem with the calendars is portraying in a sexual manner these young missionaries who were out saving souls. |
QUOTE (Isiah53 @ 9-Jan 09, 6:20 PM) |
I do not find this sexual at all. It may be a little tacky or inappropriate but I have a hard time buying that this is a sexual pornographic issue. |
QUOTE (Isiah53) |
I personally do not see what is so sexually charged or mysterious about LDS men taking off their shirts. |
QUOTE |
One way we spend a lot of attention on sex is talking about such topics as pre-martial sex, pornography & etc. At church. |
QUOTE |
People are not missionaries all of their lives |
I'm with Dbacker.
I'm all for the idea that we need to present to people that we are relatively normal, and that we aren't some sort of puritanical sect, but there are better ways to do it.
To associate these sensual images with missionaries at all is I feel very inappropriate... I certainly hope that the female version of this calendar isn't supported by any members, particularly returned sister missionaries.
Although the BYU yanking his degree seems a little odd on the surface, he did choose to jeopardize his standing with the honor code by being involved in the calendar production, and then defending it and continuing with plans for another calendar... Just because it's relatively tame by the world's standards doesn't make it okay, especially not when associating it with the church as a whole.
In addition to all of this, the modeling profession is one of the ways in which the media severely distorts our world view... Just because it is men and not women in this calendar doesn't make it any better, just less noticed. The media in general screw up our world views really badly; I'm pretty sure I could never approve of 'modeling' as it is currently typically done.

Comments: I went to his website [..] This is flat out WRONG. These calenders are inappropriate, the T-shirts poke fun at sacred callings and the whole website gave me a bad feeling. It is my opinion that anyone, male missionary or sister should be disciplined regarding this matter. This is unbelievable...this man who created these calenders did it to promote sexual feelings and arousal and it is apparent in the marketing and the message. If they do not repent and admit it is wrong, I don't think excommunication would be a bad thing. The amount of damage this is doing and the influence it could have on other people is huge. Unbelievable!
