The Diamondbacks are rebuilding. Wait, haven't they been rebuilding since 2001 when they won the World Series? Well, 2006 is no different. Just think, just 5 years ago they had names like Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Mark Grace and Tony Womack. The Diamondbacks beat the fabled New York Yankees to win a World Series in only their 4th year in the league. Things have certainly been downhill since then. Luiz Gonzalez is still a leader in the clubhouse, and Brandon Webb has shown flashes of brilliance on the mound. Looks to be a long season for the Diamondbacks in 2006.
You have to admit though, that they put everything on the line for winning a series quickly. Considering the amount of teams that have not been in the rebuilding phase that haven't been able to win a series, I think they made the right choice. I do find it amusing that they have been in a "rebuilding" phase for nearly five years. Whey they sold off the team, they really dumped the talent.
Has anyone realized that Brandon Webb is pitching a Cy Young type season so far? Here are the numbers:
6-0 record in 8 starts
2.30 ERA
Only 3 HR's allowed
36 Strikeouts and only 6 walks allowed
Currently MLB.com has him rated as the #1 pitcher in the league. The Diamondbacks find themselves in 2nd place in the NL West largely in part due to his stellar performance to-date.
My Dbacks are back.
They won the NL west and now we get to watch the Rockies and Padres fight for the NL wildcard.
I am glad that I don't have to watch my team's future come to one playoff game.
I will love watching the CUBS/Dbacks games (my second favorite team , before the Dbacks came into town was the Cubs)
