Some are under the impression that Universities are generally more tolerant of different ideas and are open to discussing them.
I believe Universities are actually quite closed to different ideas.
This is my Thesis
1. The traditional Family is considered quant and irrelevant.
2. Liberal ideals are celebrated while conservative ideals are excluded and restricted.
3. If you disagree with a professor, then you can possibly face a lower grade or quite possibly not be allowed to Graduate (A student is refused diploma in Family counseling because his religion believes Homosexuality is wrong)
What are your ideas on this subject?
I guess Universities are tolerant of ideas that agreeable with the ideals of students / professors and which in this day in age focus around such words as: democracy, freedom, justice, equality and so forth. Of course each of those words can have a definition all of its own. I think growing intolerance is a global situation and not unique to places of higher learning.

Never having attended a University I am unsure. I can see where Christian beliefs could be very censored. World wide Christianity is being suppressed. I attended College in the mid 80'S. I took a robotics course where we were being trained as eventually becomes plant managers. Diverse approaches were widely encouraged, but we took very few courses that where not technical in nature. Many of the topics involved problem solving, perhaps that is why free thinking was encouraged.
That is very sad if our Universities are treating individual thinking in such an oppressive manner. Only by free thinking and trial and error are new technologies and theories found and used.
I faced pretty closed minds once I graduated, was once told rejects are part of life and should be at 25%. The production manager could not fathom a zero tolerance environment. Now 0 is every ones goal....
