177th Semiannual General Conference

This weekend millions of people worldwide will listen to inspired messages from Church leaders as the 177th Semiannual General Conference commences Saturday morning. It is estimated that more than 100,000 people will attend the two-day conference that will be broadcast from Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, with many more tuning in via television, radio, satellite, and Internet broadcasts.

I have been listening to the 2nd session (Saturday) and have seemed to pick up that one of the recurring themes is missionary work and what we teach others. I love missionary work and so I think I would key into that anyhow but I was wondering what everyone else picked out.

I was not able to get the first session but listening to this one and looking forward to tomorrows session, it got me to thinking about themes and your thoughts about what seems to be the most popular or recurring themes in General Conferences that the saints seem to need to hear.

That was also the impression I got during the first session, specifically during one talk about how we answer questions about the church. We should be prepared for questions and know what the answers are. He also said to be brief and to the point. When someone says, "Tell me a little about your church," that's exactly what they mean: a little. Don't go off into a dissertation.

I think what this boils down to is that we have a Mormon candidate for president. The church is getting more scrutiny and more curiosity about who we are and what we believe, and about the history of the church.

When I saw that Elder Eyring had been chosen as 2nd counselor, I was thrilled! He's one of my favorite apostles, and I'm delighted he's now in the presidency. Although, I thought he looked a little like a deer in the headlights... . I'll bet it's overwhelming to be called to such a position.
