"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."

Comments: I've heard that the the Dalai Lama has secret powers over nature, if so why doesn't he use these to help the people of Tibet against the Chinese?
Dalai Lama sparks commencement controversy
With the Dalai Lama coming to UC San Diego in June to be the university's commencement speaker, the campus has been bombarded with ticket requests. The appearance also has sparked a controversy among its 3,534 Chinese undergraduates. Ref. Source 1b.
College campuses really sadden me these days. It should be a bastion of free speech but they are becoming fascist. If students don't like everything about a speaker they don't want to hear them. Regardless of whether you agree with all that the Dalai Lama believes or supports how could you not think him a good man? What more do you want for a commencement address?
Kyrroeth,
I agree 100%. We seem to be teaching our children intolerance. Intolerance of others' points of view. Intolerance of those who disagree with you politically. I love the hypocrisy. They scream for equal rights for gay people and then won't listen to someone like this man… or anyone who just wants to present the other side. Are they so weak in their resolve that they fear listening to the other side will change their opinions so they choose not to listen. Weak, our children are weak.
