Car Starts Without Battery

Have you heard the one about these missionaries that try to get away from a gang so they jump in their car and drove to their home. When they check under the hood they see the car has no battery cause one of the ganag members took it out before?

What a story to make up but there is a classic flaw as with all urban legends and that is the lack of details. Most urban legends tend to generalize most of the time. For instance they will not say the name of the mission or missionaries.

I've never heard that one. It could be true, you never know.

What prompted the missionaries to look under the hood after arriving home?

I think in the actual story the car was damaged by the same gang or maybe they just checked to see if everything was alright.

Car Starts Without Battery

I drove a car without belt once. I'm not a mechanic, and I don't remember which belt it was, but I was told by the mechanic with big eyes that it shouldn't have driven.

We were on our way to the mechanic shop because it was squealing LOUDLY. It was embarrassing! It died about 2 miles from the shop, and we pushed it into a parking lot. It didn't squeal anymore, but it also wouldn't start or run for that matter. It would kick over but never started.

After discussing it with my wife who has a gift, we said a prayer. Still nothing. We were at the end of our rope, and fairly poor so we didn't want to get towed. I even though about pushing it the last 2 miles.

She was inspired to put her hands on the car and had an inner experience and told me to try to start it again. It started right up. We quickly drove to the shop and just after pulling into the shop it died again. So we costed to a stop. The mechanic told us the belt wasn't even there, and it wasn't in the parking lot of the shop either. From what we gathered, it had fallen off when the car died the first time.

Another interesting story is our windows. Our driver side automatic window stopped working. In order to bring it up we had to have a mechanic roll it up manually. This happened multiple times. The contacts in the button seemed to be faulty. So we just left the window up. On a trip to disneyland, my wife was driving and had accidentally rolled down the window. (Forgot not to.) We were sitting in the disneyland parking lot with a window that wouldn't come up. After trying everything we could think of for over 30 minutes, we were considering leaving rather than risk loosing our luggage. This would have been a HUGE inconvenience for us! Just before we gave in to leave, my wife had an inspiration, put her hands on the door and then pushed the button. Up it went. When we got back we tried it again. It has worked ever sense.

Just thought I would share and add to the great LDS folklore! laugh.gif. But they are both true stories.
