2009 Fire Season
Once again, California is burning. One fire is just 10 miles from our home on Hwy 74 going up to Idyllwild, and this morning the smoke is very bad -- our whole house reeks of smoke. But that is nothing compared to people who have to evacuate their homes and have to fear whether or not they will lose everything. On top of this, the weather has taken a turn to a major heat wave - records are being broken all across Southern California, and the humidity is down to single digits. It's been well over 100F here all week, and today is due to be as high as 110. TV news says it will last until Sunday. This doesn't help the firefighters in their efforts, and could spark new fires in the next few days.

Klar, thanks for your well wishes. Our "little" fire here was contained and out within a few days. The fire north of L.A. Is still burning, and my heart goes out to those who have lost everything. I can't even imagine what that's like. We also had another fire north of here in Yucaipa where we have some other family members that were under threat of evacuation for a couple of days, but it ended up being unnecessary. It's interesting to me the differences in disasters that we face in different parts of the country. California has earthquakes and fires, the Gulf Coast has hurricanes, Midwest suffers with tornadoes, flooding and drought are probably the only universal disasters.
Hope that the Ridgecrest fire is under control soon.
