Ibm Opens Up Bpl

This is 'old' technology in Europe, but now it is expanding as 'new' in the USA and will enable anyone to have fast connections rather than being close to an exchange which was a factor making ADSl/DSL limited:

BM (NYSE: IBM - news) is partnering with a Texas utility to deliver broadband over power line (BPL) technology in the Houston area, joining the small but growing number of companies rolling out high-speed Internet service using standard home and business wiring.

I would like to say that I had never heard of BPL until reading this article! After researching it, I found that it is cheaper with the capabilities to have much higher bandwidth than dialup and even dsl/cable! I found a great website about it to add to the one listed above and am very excited about the possibility. BPL is also the reason that Europe has spread broadband usage much faster than the US.

Actually I first learned about this watching a German report years ago, so the US is a bit slow really, which is surprising, but maybe not so, since money will be lost if people no longer have to buy DSL modems, etc.

Offtopic but,
NOTE: I think there is a thread around here about the German Broadband.
