Borat Guide To Travel
Borat: Touristic Guidings to Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan; Touristic Guidings to Minor Nation of U.S. And A.
By Borat Sagdiyev, Flying Dolphin Press, 176 pp., $24.95 (in stores Nov. 6)
What it is: Technically two travel guides in one -- one to Borat's "native" country, Kazakhstan, the other to America. In reality, it's a spinoff created by Sacha Baron Cohen to capitalize on his hit 2006 movie, Borat.
Sample line: Borat on Washington, D.C.: "The city is not name after Hollywood Superstar actor, Denzel Washington, but after first Premier of US and A, Geoffrey Washingtons."
Target audience: Fans of the movie
Tone: Snide. Borat's stilted language does not translate in print.
Production value: Deliberately cheesy with grainy photos and misspellings
Topics addressed: Sex with children, incest, rape, bestiality, prostitution, animal abuse
Groups mocked: Jews, Gypsies, gays, blacks, the citizens of Kazakhstan
How offensive?: The book is much more vulgar and sexually graphic than the movie. Without Cohen's winsome screen persona, the printed stuff is just gross. NC-17.
Bottom line: Borat the book should be shrink-wrapped. Keep away from the kiddies
