Did you know that Iran has one of the highest per capita Opium addicts in the world? I got this from a National Geographic documentary. This is largely due to Afghanistan.

They don't see opium use as a problem in the middle east. People smoke it like it's an every day normal activity. They don't think they are addicted, and they don't think they are harming themselves. It has become part of the culture and it's part of some religious ceremonies as well.
