Very few publishers are aware that Google has in place something called Smart Pricing but what it is really and how it works?

Smart pricing is an attempt by Google to ensure that AdWords advertisers are getting a good Return On Investment for their advertising. Usually when an advertiser places an add the y want whoever clicked that ad to take some action such as buy a product or sign up for a newsletter. Google tries to determine if a user from your site is likely to result in the desired action or not. If not, they lower the price of click from your site. |
The hardest thing to determine with this is what does Google believe is our main subject considering we have a very large network with so many subjects / themes and topics.
Rather off topic, but... It seems like Google is trying to squeeze publishers as much as they can to make it nice for the Adwords customers which in a way is goo, but at the same time they need to clean up their scripts to stop Ad bombs first! |
I do not think Google see our forum for instance as a niche (we have such a variety of boards), that's why we are being smartpriced right now. We just need to keep creating threads with unique content so the ads displayed will match as closely as possible to the information provided.
Rather off topic, but... It is obvious that it is not a priority right now for Google to create some sort of script to avoid click-bombing, I guess the reasoning is that it is your account and you should be responsible for it in every way. In one word: Silly. |
I really think that no matter what you do Google will find a way to pay Publishers less. You have to remember that everyone wants to hit the 'jackpot' and be like those Publishers making US$10,000 a month, so Google needs to fins a way to cool down the zealots.
If they want to do it this way they should allow multiple accounts or at least enable you to state what each site is about within the Adsense account.
