New Hershey's Ice Breakers Pacs Look Like Drugs?

Why would this company create a product that resemble heat-sealed bags of illegal drugs such as heroin or crack?

QUOTE
Narcotics cops in Philadelphia are having a tough time figuring out if people are trying to get high or just freshen their breath.

Police claim Hershey's Ice Breakers Pacs look too much like the heat-sealed bags of illegal drugs such as heroin or crack, MyFoxPhiladelphia.com reported.

The sugary powder candy is sealed inside square dissolving breath strips.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector William Blackburn told MyFoxPhiladelphia he has been a narcotics officer for most of his career and mistook the candy pouches for the real thing.

In a written statement, Hershey defended its product, saying in part it is clearly labeled with product identification.

Sounds like they want to get kids hooked on it, but its likely to cause kids to be confussed between that and the drugs.

It's possible they didn't know... barely possible. A bad faux-pas in my opinion. We'll see if the company makes it right.

There are companies that have made a lot of money over the years by making things that adults use into kids candy. I can see the faux coolness of having a breath mint that looks like crack cocaine. For years, kids have stuffed BIG LEAGUE CHEW into their mouths so that they can have a huge chaw of tobacco in their mouths just like the big leaguers do! How many of us have enjoyed a bubble gum cigarette as a child that puff REAL POWERED SUGAR for about 2 blows? I know I have! So when you are out clubbing and need that little burst of fresh breath...why not shock people by whipping out your little baggy of crack-like mints? Everyone gets a bit shocked...you tell them that they are mints...and the party goes on. People just think you are strange and sometimes strange is cool.

I really cannot believe that this is purely a accident, although it will be played up like one by the company.

I agree with Vincenzo, I do not think is purely a coincidence and I do not think Hersheys is going to change the packs based on what is being said about it.

Yes, but companies have been making patches like this that dissolve on your tongue for a few years now, starting with Listerine. I have a feeling that this was a take on theirs, not on drugs. The drugs probably were made to look like little fresh breath strips after the strips first came out years ago. This isn't a first of its kind, it just that its color is not obvious now.

For me, if Hersheys want to make things right they will change the packaging of this product. I do not think is good publicity for them that these ice breakers resemble drugs.
