Nazis & Speed

On the History Channel a documentary was saying that one of the reasons the Nazis were able to travel so fast and attack fearlessly was because of the use of the drug 'Speed', an amphetamine that made you alert, feel a sense of wellness and eliminated depression. Hitler required 5 shots a day of the drug and many say that is why he went crazy by the end of the war. The Japanese also used this drug with their ground troops and Kamikaze pilots.

Truck drivers, athletes, students, parents (with newborns in the house) and many others have used this drug over the years. I never heard of it in a shot form as I am not sure you would want to pump that in so fast. Normally, they were called "little white crosses".

The German military was notorious for their use of methamphetamine in World War Two. The German pharmaceutical Pervitin is an oral pill of 3mg which was made available in 1938, but by mid-1941 it became a controlled substance, reportedly because of the amount of time needed for a soldier to rest and recover after use. Military doctors were then given guidelines on how they should issue it.

If he really was taking 5 shots a day of the stuff (a injection means he waste none of the chemical...where as orally you only get about 25% of the chemical in the pill), I am extremely suprised that his heart survived. I can tell you that I driving back to school really late at night after having worked a double shift and took what was called "little white cross". My car broke down and I finally got back to school at 645am instead of midnight and had a class at 700am, so I took another to get me through until after lunch when I could take a nap. After the 2nd one, my heart start beating funny (scared the HELL out of me) and I couldn't concentrate to save my life (the thought I was going to have a heart attack may have had something to do with it). When I got back around lunchtime, I ate and went to sleep for a short nap that lasted approximately 16 hours. I really understand the comment about resting and recovering after use in the quote above!

QUOTE
Amphetamine is used by college and high-school students as a study and test-taking aid. Amphetamine increases energy levels, concentration, and motivation, allowing students to study for an extended period of time, much longer than one would be capable of doing unaided.

Amphetamine is also used by professional, collegiate and high school athletes for its strong stimulant effect. Energy levels are perceived to be dramatically increased and sustained, believed to allow for more vigorous and longer play, though at least one study has found that this effect is not measurable. This practice can be extremely dangerous, and athletes have died as a result, for example, British cyclist Tom Simpson.

Amphetamine use has historically been especially common among Major League Baseball (MLB) athletes and is usually known by the slang term "greenies". In 2006, MLB banned the use of amphetamines and the ban is enforced by periodic drug-testing. Consequences if a player tests positive are significant, but MLB has received some criticism because these consequences are dramatically less severe than for steroids, with the first offense bringing only a warning and further testing.

Truck drivers, especially long-haul drivers, take amphetamine to combat symptoms of somnolence and to increase their concentration on driving.

If you're a longterm abuser, you can look forward to the following:

QUOTE
Long-term amphetamine abuse can induce psychological effects that include insomnia, mental states resembling schizophrenia, aggressiveness (not associated with schizophrenia), addiction or dependence with accompanying withdrawal symptoms, irritability, confusion, and panic. Chronic and/or extensively-continuous use can lead to amphetamine psychosis, which causes delusions and paranoia, but this is uncommon when taken as prescribed. The abuse of an amphetamine is highly addictive, and, with chronic abuse, tolerance develops very quickly. Withdrawal, although not physiologically threatening, is an unpleasant experience (including paranoia, depression, difficult breathing, dysphoria, gastric fluctuations and/or pain, and lethargia). This commonly leads chronic users to re-dose amphetamine frequently, explaining tolerance and increasing the possibility of addiction.

Sounds like if he was injecting, he probably was quite possibly in one of the stages listed above. Agression, insomnia, irritability, etc... I can see that from writings of people that worked for him.

I agree it would certainly explain much about the last part of his life. Chemical use to heighten the ability of ones body is always a dangerous course to take.

Nonsense, this is just another way to question a genius mind and make him look bad.

You're playing a bit fast and loose with the term "genius" there are you not? If the word is ever to be used in the context of Hitler surely "evil genius" is a far better way.

TrueWhite, this is not nonsense at all. Hitler's personal doctor, Dr. Morell, gave Hitler a pill / injection called, 'vitamultin calcium' which was packed with vitamins and methanphemine. Dr. Morell's 'wonder drug' which had a way of bringing Hitler to life almost instantly did so for six years! By the end of the war Hitler was a confirmed addict and had tremors in both his hands and feet.

Title: Hitler was insane

Comments: Hitler was an idiot and obviously insane. At the end of the war he was ordering armies that did not exist to battle. His decision to attack Russia put him in a war on two massive fronts. When you count North Africa which he needed for oil. Putting a bullet in his brain was the most sane decision of his life.
