Is The Naacp Or The Cong. Black Caucus Racist? - Page 2

QUOTE

you propose to have one big homogeneous group

By all means no,

But why do we have to have groups based on Race at all? It predisposes that all black people believe the same way and want a particular goal.

It seems as condescending as a politician or group coming forward and saying "I represent White People". Just by that statement alone I would reject him.

I would much prefer groups that represented ideas and ideals(even though I would not agree with their tenants):
Liberal, Conservative, Socialist, Baptists, Mormons, Catholic, Pro-choice, Pro-Life etc. These are actually groups that advocate certain ideas that are universally representative of members of all races.

What use is it to have a group that represents the colour of a person's skin: Blacks, Browns, Whites. Yellows, Reds? These are just skin colour and do not represent an ideal that is being forwarded.

I see it as faulty logic to suppose that because someone has brown skin that he needs represented as a brown skinned person, or he needs represented as a White, Yellow, Red or any skin colour by a caucus or association.

His or her representation should stem from his or her beliefs I.e. Religion, politics, causes, and not from the colour of his or her skin.

dbackers you're right we should unite rather than separate and all these groups are trying to make themselves superior than others and that attitude doesn't promote the kind of unity we need to face the challenges we're going through here in America.

Is The Naacp Or The Cong. Black Caucus Racist? Reviews Consumer & Travel Family Culture

The reason these groups are focused on just one race is because that race is in need of specific help because of things which have happened in history. You may think that slavery and racism is in the past, but things have still not changed all the way. African Americans have still not been given equal chances with everything. You have to think about a few things. Yes there are many African Americans with good jobs and in nice neighborhoods, but there are many who were raised in low income housing and who did not receive good education. Most of these people in low income housing were not given a fair shot at life. Their parents, grandparents, and so on, were not given great education and were put in the situation they are in now. The government of the past forced the race as a whole to struggle just to get by. Now help is being offered from groups so that African Americans can receive better education and help to get jobs which their parents or grandparents may not be able to help them with due to inexperience.

Comments: No LDS_forever, I am fairly sure he is saying that harbouring fragmentation within a society which, rightly so, values the individual above the collective, is less important than creating equality and merit based recognition. Some facile need to associate with a physically or "culturally" similar group at the expense of assuming all humans to be inherently equal is dangerous, misguided, antiquated and not appropriate in the 21st century. For a nation which reviles its divisive past, it is disturbingly willing, through ideologues such as yourself, to solidify through justification the same division merely coming from a different source. Do different races have the same needs? Are you serious? I wasn't aware there was a fundamental difference between races and ethnic groups. Healthy kids, comfortable lives and fulfilling professions are universal "needs". The only reason differences appear relevant is because people like yourselves consider it to be the case. That would be fine if tribalistic invariable division didn't have a monopoly on human barbarity, but unfortunately... It does.
