Is this possible or are the parents abusing this child by overfeeding him?

An eight-month-old baby boy in Jilin, Northeast China has tipped the scales at over three stone. Weighing 18.8 kg (41 pounds) and measuring 78 centimeters in height, he was born with a normal birth weight of 3.3 kg (7 pounds 4 oz). However, he starting putting on extra weight when he was one month old, according to his parents. His mother nurses him more than 20 times a day because he often feels hungry. Because of his obesity, he is unable to crawl or stand. |
I've seen something similar to this first hand, and the problem in the case that I know about, the problem was with the mother who felt the need to keep constantly feeding her baby. Unfortunately it becomes a vicious circle, where the baby needs more milk because of the constant feeding, the mother feeds more and more, the baby grows larger and larger and needs more milk etc etc..
The baby I'm talking about weighed 25lb by 10 weeks old...and was the only baby that I know of that had to go on a diet under the age of 3 months! It's certainly a sad situation all round, and looking at this case here, I'm convinced that there is an element of the same going on here too!
