GERMAN ARCHBISHOP IGNITES FUROR OVER 'DEGENERATE' ART REMARK

The Roman Catholic archbishop of Cologne has sparked outrage in Germany after calling some modern art "degenerate," a term evoking the Nazi attitude towards 20th-century art.

Entartete Kunst was the name of an exhibition of works organized by the Nazis in 1937 in Munich as a warning to the German people.

Under the rule of Adolf Hitler, the Nazi government labelled all modern and expressionist art as degenerate. More than 15,000 paintings were removed from museums. During Nazi rule, hundreds of artists were persecuted.


However the Archbishop said,

I guess he will be watched more closely now.
