I think she is driven more by her love for Clark. Her interactions with Lex only came about because of Clark's rejection of her. I think she still has some feeling for Lex despite her anger towards him.

I think she loves Clark so much that she was willing to become dark. I know that sounds silly, but maybe she felt as though she had no choice. It's like the good guy wouldn't have me and the evil guy just wants to hurt me so it's better I just go on my own. She will make a great anti-hero if the story allowed for it.
