Matter: Can It Be Created?

we know from the Pearl of Great Price that space is infinite. That means matter is too. The laws of physics states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Does that mean that God cannot create matter and that all matter that did and ever will exist is already in exsistence? Does that mean God in a sense is not truly a creator, meaning he can't make something out of nothing? This would simply be something he could not do, not that if he did he would cease to be God so he wont, but that he simply cannot. What do you think of this? undecided.gif

Created It Matter

I kind of suspect that matter can be created. Science has theories about things such as the speed of light and the creation and destruction of matter. However, those theories are not necessarily absolute truth.

We know that matter can be destroyed, in nuclear weapons. So, if it can be destroyed, it seems likely it can be created.

In my opinion, anyway.

I was pondering something considering resurrection, because if matter cannot be destroyed then it would make sense. If a person is creamated, their matter still exists but in a different form. Also, resurrection leads me to believe that maybe we're re-created from a piece of our dna, but in a perfect form.

Why would our DNA be needed when our current likeness is not an image of who we truly are / look like?

The fact that the earth was formed with existing elements (matter unorganized - yet we are not given details as to how unorganized it was) is a hint to me that there is not a 'snap of the fingers' when it comes to handling the creation.

Created It Matter

I've always thought that our likeness resembles at least a little of what we will look like after we are resurrected, because it's still us... just in perfect form.

Matter: Can It Be Created?

I am sure that the "Elephant Man" doesn't want to have a resurrected body that looks like his mortal one. The same with many, many other people with severe physical problems.

I kind of doubt that my spiritual self looks too much like my physical self. And it doesn't matter at all to me one way or the other.

But back to matter being created. Perhaps it takes so much energy to "create" matter, that there is a significant "economical" reason for God to not make things out of nothing. Not to mention that it would be wasteful of the massive amounts of raw material that inhabits the universe.

Remember how much energy is released when just a very small amount of matter is destroyed. That is why nuclear weapons are so destructive.

Oh, yes. That reminds me that we (humans) can, and do, create "matter". Well, at least we create antimatter, in the laboratory.

Matter It Created

Since when do nuclear bombs destroy matter? They split an atom but the matter is still there.

If an atom is the basic structure of matter, and it is split, what matter is left? Yes, there may be free electrons, free quarks, and whatever else is in there, but it is not real matter.

That is where all the energy comes from that makes the nuclear explosion. E=mc...2 is the formula that expresses how much energy is released when matter is destroyed.
