TOY RECALL

Big news today on the toy front. The toy-making giant Mattel announced a recall of more than 9 million of its toys, including Dora the Explorer, Polly Pockets and Batman action figures, all made in China. Most of the toys have tiny magnets that could be swallowed by toddlers, and another group of products was painted with lead-based paint, a known toxin that can severely harm children. This recall follows another one from a week ago by Fisher-Price (also owned by Mattel) for lead-based toys too. Correspondent Juju Chang visits a clinic at Montefiore Hospital in New York that deals specifically with lead poisoning and children to see what all of this might mean for the many children who may have come into contact with the toys. I am sure these companies are regretting using China as a means to make toys at a cheaper price. How many of you have actually started to take away the toys from your children?

CHINESE OFFICIALS KNEW ABOUT MAGNETIC TOY PROBLEMS: REPORT

Chinese authorities knew about safety problems with magnets on toys months before Mattel Inc. issued a massive recall, an industry official told Reuters Wednesday.
