EDITORIAL: LANGUAGE SKILLS AND THRILLS
The bromide about `old dogs and new tricks` is true - to a degree. When it comes to learning a language, for instance, it is more difficult for someone who has been steeped in one tongue to adjust and make room for another. But that doesn't mean the older set shouldn't - and couldn't - excel at languages. And it certainly doesn't mean they shouldn't encourage youngsters to take up the interest.

I would encourage children and young people to learn other languages while they have the extra ability of being able to concentrate and remember the new language.
I have tried a few courses in foreign languages since being an adult, and have found it a lot more difficult than learning french at school!
People who can speak more than one language can often get better paid jobs too, so I do think that it's important to grasp the opportunities offered to you while you can!
