QUOTE
There are lots of scary things afloat in Iowa floodwaters, but a creature captured in Webster City could be the most frightening.

Webster City police officers last week caught an American alligator that took refuge in a small floodwater pool in a residential backyard.

Imagine waking up and finding this two foot critter in your back yard? Some people should not keep some animals as pets.

Yikes! I am glad that the article pointed out it was probably someone's pet as I was wondering where it came from. Could of it came from someones house that was flooded verses being let go? Either way, Crazy people! There are just some things that are NOT meant to be pets, no matter how cool they are!

I have reason to believe it was let go as it was getting to big to be kept safely. Plus the food required to feed it was probably getting expensive. I think it would have been in for a heck of surprise if it was there when winter hit. smile.gif

If it was only two feet then they were lucky. A two foot gator could still do some damage but if it were 4 or 5 feet then he could be a killer.

People should put more thought into what kind of pets they choose. I can't imagine anything more boring than an alligator. They won't even fetch. And as has been mentioned they could really be a problem as they get bigger. There was a news article recently in Anchorage about a snake found in a garage. Snakes are not indigenous to Alaska. Someone thought it would be cool to have, then it grew and became more than they could handle so it was given a death sentence by turning it loose. It may have done fine for now, but when winter hits you have snake popsicles.

I can see raising a alligator if you were going to use it for meat and new boots. Maybe even a new purse. But as a pet that is something you do not want. Even those who have poisonous snakes are asking for trouble. Why can people not be happy with just a dog or cat?
