Hi, I found out about this site from someone who advised me to register as I needed advice on how to deal with websites that are illegally using pictures taken off the internet and being used on porn websites without permission. I am hoping to gain a better understanding of how this is done and how this major problem can be solved and dealt with.

Hi Cris, that someone was me. First off thanks for Registering, this site will likely help you beyond the current situation you are facing. Can you give me some details of what you are up against? For instance:

1. On a scale of 1-10 how familiar are you with the net?
2. How did they get your image?
3. Was your image on a site with copyright info?
4. Do you have the address of the site in question? If so, send me that by Email. I replied.

Usually, such sites can be tracked by host's IP or domain whois lookup.

You should also look up this Board: Internet Scams to get an idea of what is out there.

Hi Cris, welcome aboard. I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. Unfortunately, once you put pictures on the net anyone can use it for any kind of purpose. Some years ago when I was thinking in doing Commercial Modeling, I posted a picture of me in a model site. Then upon vising the site again, I realized they took off my pic and they replaced it with this sexy pic of a woman on a beach in a bikini suit! I was very angry, they never removed.

I hope we can help you remove that picture from that site, just follow JB's advice. All the best.

Okay further to our Email correspondence about this: Cris are you getting my Emails? There is no need to keep using the Contact form, you just simply reply to my Email when you get it. I am not sure how to access those IDs you gave me. I do not see an option to look up by photo ID, maybe I missed it. You need to keep Emailing and calling. You have to think that right now we are in the Christmas season and the person might be away. I did do research and they own many similar adult oriented sites, so this seems to be a big objective for them.

Did you also see what I said about your Email address? You did not answer, but it is giving away so much information.

Got your Emails. We can Discuss it here if you like, I just needed Email to keep the site link and content confidential, but other than that possible actions can be Discussed here.

I was thinking that you should contact two places about this:

1. GoDaddy.com - they are the Registrar of the domains. Find out if what they are using the domain for is against their TOS and see if they can get it shut down that way.

2. Contact a Canada Commission for abuse of this kind and see if they will be willing to take action.

Have you tried those two?
