Referring to Things as 'Sexy'

Some humans that prefer to describe things in more colorful terms may refer to something as unrelated as a table as having a 'sexy' design. Do you believe this is a vague use of descriptive words or do you think it spices things up and is an effective marketing tool?

This is an effective marketing tool because our society is so based on sex. Associating something with sex makes it more appealing in your subconscience which is appealed to through desire and want. To me, and I'm sure to others, it seems silly to describe anything as sexy that is obviously not categorically so. A table does not have a "sleek and sexy" design, that silly. That type of stuff doesn't appeal to myself and many others, so you are starting to see less of the over hype of "sexy" descriptions of ordinary things.

I agree with Konquererz. Of all people, one of my painting teachers at BYU-Idaho would commonly refer to aspects of paintings as being "sexy." I think he would use the term in referring to the details or aspects of a painting that make it exciting or interesting. I'm pretty sure I can tell you right now his reasoning for using the term sexy - at BYU-Idaho, that's the last thing any student would expect to hear from a teacher's mouth. I think he liked to shock students, but also get the point across that adding certain things to a painting can really go a long way in making it more engaging.

I have never felt comfortable referring to an inanimate object as sexy. As a matter of fact, the only thing I can refer to as sexy is a woman, and nothing else. If an object has some appeal, I will refer to it as elegant or striking, but not sexy. Having someone refer to something as sexy doesn't really make me more apt to buy it or even consider it. It's just a cheap ploy to get people interested in it, in my opinion.

In genreal I reserve the word sexy to imply that the person brings for desires in me. Clothing perhaps is the only item that might apply but only as you are imagining in on a person and how they will look.

Tables cars ect definatley would not fall in to this catagory.
