Comments: A friend of mine wrote a peom about being gay but he is not gay. Does that make any sense? He said he wanted to test his creative writing skills but I told him that he would need to actually be gay if he really wanted to put his thoughts soundly into prose. Was I wrong?

For such a question to be answered one needs to first see the poem. If he hasn't written it, let him write it and then post it on here.
I am sure there are those here that can tell him where or not it fits. The reason I say this is because one does not have to be something to write about it. Should they do some research? Yes, as the more information they have the better their story or poem will be.
One does not need to be a pirate to write about pirates.
