Bill would allow ads on school buses
SALT LAKE CITY - Big yellow school buses could become big yellow billboards under a proposal before the state Legislature. In this time of budget woes, one lawmaker has an idea to help school districts earn some cash: Allow advertising on school buses. Ref. Source 1
Of course they would need to be appropriate. But then... Who decides appropriate. Video games? Junk food? Hygiene products? Various medical products?
But overall, while I don't LIKE the idea, I think generally, in Western culture, consumerism IS the reality, and though there is a possibility that allowing ads around kids IN school only more firmly impresses this mindset, maybe it could help inure them to it as well, or could even serve as topics for teachers to help discuss critical thinking and discernment with kids.
Many states are adopting this. It is an excellent way to draw in some dollars for projects. Instead of just seeing the big yellow bus everywhere you get some ads to go with it. As for appropriateness there are some ads that just appeal to everyone like vacation ads where you can fly to the Caribbean or Disney World or see Japan, who can argue with that?
