Without distracting from the subject do other religions have the same policy of no firearms? I don't think there should be any reason to have a gun in church but if the President was visiting for some reason I don't think you could tell the secret service they can't carry weapons.

Comments: Guns were a life long fascination with me. I've built and owned several thousand of them. I made a living at knowing how to use them very well.
I spent several years of my career in the Marines as a head marksmanship instructor and competitor.
I enjoyed designing, building & shooting sniper rifles and Race Guns used in IPSC Competion.
I loved all things guns. And on an unprofessional IPSC level, I can compete with the best of them. And as far as sniping is concerned, I am a professional.
I see guns as fun & perfectly understand the serious necessity for them.
But my feelings are... That though I carried a gun in war and felt perfectly justified and obligated to use it for it's intended purpose, it's not my preferred weapon of choice anymore as it once had been.
Nor is it something I feel I ever need or want to rely on in the dangerous future that lies ahead.
Faith, Righteous living & the Priesthood of God, make an AK in the hands of an enemy or domestic criminal, useless.
And I much prefer the methods of God than to even rely on my vast expertise in all things guns.
As good as I am with guns, God's Guns are better !
Guns are fun. God's power is seriously, infinitely superior.

Comments: Did I just read that right? Did the Prophets back in 2004 attempt to ban guns in church, temples, etc.? For Your Information they can't do that. They obviously do not understand the laws in this regard. In order for them to prohibit guns in church they have to be a private org., post signs on every entrance stating the prohibition, and then enforce it. If those conditions are met and somebody carries a gun in church the only thing law enforcement can do is escort them to the door and if push comes to shove charge them with trespassing. Honestly, I am outraged that the prophets took a stand against the 2nd amendment. By the way, there are no such signs on my churches doors so I will continue to carry legally thank you!
Are you in some eminent danger that you need to be armed even while at Worship? If you are won't your presence put others in danger? If you are not, then why not just leave the gun home? Just because you have a legal right to do something does not mean it has to be executed in every place and every situation.

Comments: Why would anyone bring a gun to church? Guns should be left at home and under proper storage procedures. I believe that guns have a purpose; hunting, sporting clays, such as that. I believe that people are not raised to respect human life anymore, much less guns. It is this lack of moral consciousness that causes such events to take place. The age old saying holds true, guns do not kill people, people kill people.

Comments: It's not just about Constitutional rights...the church is a global church. That said, I have a concealed permit and prior to knowledge of the Church's stance on firearms at places of worship - carried my weapon concealed both to sacrament meeting and other church activities.
People who are security conscious and carry a weapon have a saying... "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."
Peter carried a sword, and wielded it in a naieve sense of protecting the Lord. While there are means of protecting our families in church other than with weapons and heaven forbid there ever be a circumstance where that becomes necessary, I think it's a principle that we are expected to first be obedient (hence I no longer carry at church or other places of worship), but be prepared in every sense of the word...physically to our greatest ability, for all contingencies.
