Oscar Pistorius convicted of 'culpable homicide'
Oscar Pistorius was convicted Friday of 'culpable homicide' in relation to the Valentine's Day 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. 'Culpable homicide' is similar to manslaughter and means that a killing was not intentional. A South African judge had already cleared the Olympic and Paralympic athlete of murder. Ref. USAToday
Oscar Pistorius sentenced to five years in prison
More than seven months after the Olympic runner's trial for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp started, Judge Thokozile Masipa announced a punishment of five years imprisonment after finding him guilty of culpable homicide, which is comparable to manslaughter. Pistorius testified during his murder trial that he mistook Steenkamp for a dangerous nighttime intruder. Ref. USAToday
