Herdpraemie
"Herdpraemie" is the Most Contemptuous Word of the year 2007
The most contemptuous word of 2007 is "Herdpraemie" (stove bonus). An independent jury of linguists, journalists, and writers has selected the term from a list of 969 entries. The jury's spokesman Horst Dieter Schlosser said the word had been chosen because it was slandering all parents and especially mothers who raised their children at home instead of sending them to nurseries and day-cares. Meanwhile "Herdkrippe" was no longer used ironically but seriously. Runner-up was "klimaneutral" (climatically neutral, not affecting the climate). Schlosser explained that the term was promoting an expension of air transportation that was not climatically neutral at all. Ranked third was "entartet" (degenerate), a term that Cologne's Cardinal Meisner used to describe art that is uncoupled from reverence of God. The jury ruled that Meisner applied a key Nazi term that was used for slandering unwelcome artists and led to the removal of their works.
