I was just noticing the title of this topic and saw "Real Druids" and so the questions arises : What's the difference between a druid and a "real" druid?
We were discussing that earlier. The real druids are the ones that are people living today practising the ancient beliefs. I guess with all the role-playing genres out there featuring the druid as a character some people might get mixed up and think we're talking about those.
I can't say I am a "Real" druid, nobody can.
Are the druids in the National Eisteddfod of Wales real?
Are the druids in Pagan Circles all over the world real?
Am I a "Plastic Neo Pagan" ?
If people follow their hearts and are true to themselves whatever their tradition, they can be as real as they like.
Tully considers himself a real druid or at least that is what I got from his explanation.
No, I consider myself a "Modern Druid" (in general), an "AODA Druid Apprentice" (currently), and a "First Degree RDNA Druid" (again, currently).
I do agree with GothicNature about the RPG/Video game version of "Druid" in comparison to those of us that have Druidry in our lives as our Spiritual/Religious/Philisophical paths (feel free to use one, two or all of those to define what Druidry is per individual). I'm certainly not a virtual reality video game persona.
However, I will still hold to the premise that we don't know enough of exactly what the Ancient Druids did, beleived, or practiced. We just have a scarcity fo two thousand year old Druids to ask.
I am a Modern Druid who practices Modern Druidry, which happens to draw (for myself) on some of what we do know about the Ancient Druids.
