Guest Bedroom

Do you have a guest bedroom in your house or have you ever thought of adding one on? Do you see a benefit to having a guest room?

I do have a guest bedroom in my house and have for years. While I do not see it as a bad thing if someone doesn't, I do like having the ability to give a guest as much privacy and help them feel as much as ease when staying in my home. I know when I stay with someone who does have a guest bedroom I do not feel that I am imposing as much as if they do not. I have had people tell me that I am wasting space and furnishing by having a room that I simply never use. I do have a guest over maybe 3 or 4 times a year but that just isn't seen as enough I guess. But on the flip side, several years ago a very good friend of mine went through a very bad divorce and it was very nice to allow him to move in at a moments notice, and it was as easy for him as staying in a hotel room. All he did was bring in a laundry basket of clothes and he was setup with everything he needed.

Depending on the size of the room, you could do what I have done with our spare room. We have turned it into a Office/Guestroom. If you chose the right furniture, it can serve both purposes. We use a daybed and a desk with chair and shelf and it works well. It is a pretty comfortable bed and is definitely good enough for a couple of days of sleep. When it is not being used by guests, we use it for our computer.

A Guest Room can also be a great family room or the new room for an adopted child looking for a good family wink.gif.

I would love a guest room, I agree it does make a great computer room or office when not in use. One can get very comfy day beads.

I think it also adds value to the home.

We have a guest cabin. Several years ago when our oldest son was returning home for awhile, instead of adding on an extra room we built a small cabin. Now that he has moved on to his own life we use it for a guest cabin. We've also put a foosball table out there so our youngest son can bring friends home and they can hang out without being underfoot. Out of town guests can visit and have their own space when they need it. It may not be luxurious, but we are on 2 acres in the Alaskan woods so it is really quite a nice place to stay.

Hmm makes me think I may have a place to stay if I ever get back to Alaska. biggrin.gif

I will have a guest bedroom soon. I think it is nice to have a bedroom avaiable for guests to use when they stop by for a visit.
