Oasis of the Seas
Just when you thought cruise ships couldn't get any bigger, along comes Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas. The 225,282-ton vessel, unveiled this morning in a special two-hour broadcast of ABC's Good Morning America, is nearly 50% larger than the largest cruise ship currently at sea and can hold 6,296 passengers. Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas makes a huge impression
As the behemoth sails out of its home port of Fort Lauderdale past 2,000- and 3,000-passenger vessels that seem dinky in comparison, its horn emits a guttural mine-is-bigger-than-yours blast. Inside on the Royal Promenade, one of seven onboard "neighborhoods" and a cross between Disney's Main Street USA and a shopping mall food court, waiters hawk $7.20 piña coladas in commemorative glasses. Stunned newcomers gaze around the three-story expanse. Ref. Source 2
