Echo Location

I saw a documentary about medical mysteries and this boy that is blind who uses Echo Location to get around (similar to how bats and dolphins get around). His version of Echo Location is to make clicking sounds to tell him where everything is and he is marvelous at it! He can score baskets, ride a bike, and even skate down the road while being totally blind. He says the clicking sounds he makes gives feedback to him about where everything is located.

They say that someone who is blind has heightened senses of touch smell and hearing. I have a feeling that some of this is true as people who are blind can get around pretty well for being blind. I remember reading about a blind teen who took a moped to a convenience store a 1/2 mile away and almost made it back before he got in a accident. HE was able to drive there by using the curb to tell him where he was. Goes to show you that even those who are disabled are not as disabled as you think they are.

This sounds like something from a Dare Devil comic minus the clicking sounds. It's remarkable how the brain can adapt to whatever disabilities we may have. Maybe echo location can be taught formerly to the blind so they are not so reliant on their cane.
