Leading Physician Convinced Babies Feel Pain at 20 Weeks of Pregnancy
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading physician who has investigated the pain premature infants feel says he's convinced that unborn children have the capacity to feel pain as early as 20 weeks into pregnancy. Dr. Kanwaljeet Anand, a University of Arkansas professor, is the foremost authority on the subject. He recently spoke with the New York Times about his research. Anand says it started at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England when he was a resident at a neonatal intensive care unit. He noticed babies would come back from surgeries in terrible condition and realized it was because they were suffering through the operations without anesthesia. Clinical trials eventually showed that babies suffered massive stress without it and babies who received anesthesia beforehand were 15 percent more likely to survive such early operations. Today, the standard of care that Anand discovered is routine. As technology advanced, so did the ability to determine when babies began to have the capacity to feel pain.

Interesting study. Not very long ago, they used to perform circumcisions in newborns without anesthesia because doctors believed they did not feel pain. Of course they do! Just because later on, they cannot "remember" does not mean you are not putting them through a lot of unnecessary stress. Babies are babies and they are very delicate!
You are completely right LDS! I often ponder how close we still are to the dark ages in our thought process and lack of common sense.
Take birthing the child is born as it passes out into the world its lungs are compress and the the pressure released to start us breathing. In some cases it does not work so the doctor touches the foot (a very sensitive part of ones boy) to shock the child so that is take its first breath. So how on earth can they say they would not feel the pain of a knife cutting possibly the most sensitive part of a mans body!
House Committee Passes Bill Banning Abortions at 20 Weeks of Pregnancy
The Obama Administration has dropped its legal battle against a judge's decision that would allow young girls to purchase the Plan B morning after pill over the counter.
The decision allows anyone to purchase the drug and opponents of the decision say it paves the way for male sexual predators to purchase the drug for girls they victimize, by removing safeguards currently in place. Ref. Source 1
Report: 30 Babies Die From Abortions After 20 Weeks of Pregnancy Every Day
In the national debate over late-term abortions, new figures bring the practice of unborn children dying late in pregnancy into a stark reality.
A new Congressional Budget Office report shows unborn children who have passed 20 weeks of pregnancy are killed in abortions about 30 times every day. And with some states not fully reporting their abortion numbers and some states with abortion facilities that alter fetal age at the time of the abortion to make later abortions "comply" with state limits, that number is likely higher. Sixteen States Tell Supreme Court: Uphold Ban on Abortions After 20 Weeks
A group of 16 states have filed briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court this week that encourage the high court to reverse a federal appeals court decision overturning a ban the state of Arizona passed to ban abortions after 20 weeks because unborn children feel pain.
The states are among the parties that filed briefs asking the high court to reverse a U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit decision against an Arizona law restricting non-emergency abortions after 20 weeks. Arizona legislators enacted the law based on evidence that shows children experience pain beginning at least at that stage and that women can experience increased physical risk and significant psychological trauma from late-term abortions.
