Am I Worthy

How do you know if you are worthy? Sometimes I feel guilty but not like anything serious just I do not feel as good as other days. I guess it can be that I'm just depressed.

Worthy Am

I go through that sometimes, specially if I did something I knew I shouldn't do it. I think the Spirit testifies to us when we are choosing the right, hence when our choices are poor we feel down and depressed.

By the other hand, discouragement is a tool Satan uses to lead us away from Heavenly Father, he knows our weaknesses and he reminds us of them as to make us believe we are not "worthy" of God's love. Nothing far from the truth.

Am I worthy?

As a priesthood holder and a Father, I question this alot.

I see My wife's faith in my abilities as a Husband and wonder if I can truly live up to that standard. I see my own inadequacies and wonder if I can do it alone.

My wife has to remind me continuously, that no, I cannot do it alone. It is when I refuse to acknowledge my own weaknesses and ignore the commandment to sometimes let go of my independence that I am most discouraged. On the other hand, it is when I kneel down and say "Father, I cannot do this alone, Please give me strength." that I start to feel the wondrous joy that comes from the comforter.

Anyway, do not lose hope, you have many people on this side of the vail as well as the other that are pulling for you and a Father in Heaven that knows your desires. He is there for you.

Hey Jen-
Your definitely not alone--although I know at the same time you can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. I have manic depression and it is under control with medication. But it has been one of my biggest struggles with living the gospel...for that reason--I wonder a lot of my worthiness and if I was worthy WHY do I have to go through it? Why does my husband and kids have to suffer? We brought it to the Lord as a matter of prayer. On the outside, people might call my husband an "enabler" but he is the only reason I am still here. I know that the Lord prompts him through his spirit to know how to handle things. We have both felt Heavenly Father's plan happening we just don't know the details. From many years of experience please, please, please go to Heavenly Father and it may not even feel like it does anything but when you crawl out of it, and look back, you will see how things changed. My heart goes out to people with depression and especially when it is looked upon as laziness or such. I KNOW that I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and that is what gets me through. From your posts it sounds as if you do too and I hope that will carry you.
My prayers will be with you.

I am sure a sweetheart like you has nothing to worry about as far as being worthy of both Gods spirit and love. The only one who will stop you from receiving both is you, by closing your heart to them. Even Alma the younger, after all the terrible things he did was only a thought away from complete forgiveness and the love of God. So are you.

Even Nephi felt as you expressed,

QUOTE
"Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth: O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities." - 2 Ne. 4:17

Remember - Guilt comes from Satan and immerses us in despair thus it prevents growth or change and brings a burden which is heavy and hard to carry.

Godly Sorrow comes from God and immerses us in hope, faith and love, which encourages growth or change and has a light burden that is easy to carry.

QUOTE
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." - Matt. 11:29-30

"If you have any thoughts and feelings [of inadequacy and guilt], I invite you to become as a little child and feel again 'the great and wonderful love made manifest by the Father and the Son in the coming of the Redeemer into the world' (D&C 138:3). Childlike faith in the perfect love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will 'divide asunder' (Helaman 3:29) Satan's snares of inadequacy, imperfection, and guilt."
(Anthony D. Perkins, "The Great and Wonderful Love," Ensign, Nov. 2006, 77)
