I have heard from a few sources that back in the 1970's and 80's BYU had a program where they tried to convert gay men into straight men. The procedure was to show them gay porn and shock them if they became aroused and then show heterosexual porn and reward them if they became aroused. This sounds off the wall to me, possibly one of those rumors that nobody knows who started it. But, here is a website with some individuals who alledgedly experienced this and their stories. Source 5
I would be shocked if it were true unless it was a controlled psychological treatment. Also, lds-mormon.com has some interesting stuff, but he has a tendency to use both accurate and inaccurate sources. Best thing to do is to talk with some former psychology professors from BYU and see if it is true.
A non-member friend of mine asked me about this. I thought it was a load of lies, but that's really interesting. I'm currently attending BYU, so maybe I'll have to try talking to some of the professors around here and see if that actually happened.
This kind of radical therapy for men 'suffering' from being gay is not fiction but only is used for the most severe cases. I do not know anyone that has gone through this process, most just come to terms with how they are and accept it.
