Gold is part of your equipment.
I do not like the sharing option because it creates an unnatural balance and it is not realistic for role-play. It is not likely that anyone will have just met a stranger and suddenly shower him / her with gifts and gold. However here are some things to note already covered in the Equipping Characters Thread:
1. Observe where I said:
Yes, characters can borrow from each other, but it should be just to perform an immediate task and not as a means to form a barter or cover faulty buying in the beginning.
This means that if you are paying for drinks, sure. If it is because a player forgot to buy a backpack to keep all his belongings, then no.
2. With that said I used to have a system of exchange of World of Medieval gold in exchange for FP. If Players are willing to 'work' for it then I can bring the system back but they will need to let me know as the system only works while in the Village.
Can you explain the FP for gold process please?
This maybe something I am interested in. I think the problem is everything cost gold, there is no silver or copper, but full gold it is just a bad habit from Advance Dungeons & Dragons I think. You can survive on 1 or 2 gold because food cost some copper or silver. Different world. I am learning that the hard way.
I did a search and noticed that I still had an old Post giving some options: A New Way To Earn Your Gold. What I am offering is to bring back some of those as a means to 'cash' in the FP you earn from Posting towards in-game gold pieces. It is more rewarding when you Post in Topics that pay out high amounts of FP.
Not sure I understand what you mean by bad Advance Dungeons & Dragons habit. Advance Dungeons & Dragons did have multiple metals, but this is NOT Advance Dungeons & Dragons. This is a custom RPG and having one common monetary system makes life easy because the idea here is to get away from the chains of statistics and counting pennies to wise decision making and advanced planning based on what is your character's position.
Picture it this way...
Your character is a vagabond, he is wondering the desert. He sees an army ahead... What do you do?
Many ideas can come to your head but this is the circumstance you role play. Most players come thinking this kind of role play:
Your character is born a hero, he buys whatever comes to mind not giving thought of travel, hunger, thirst or where he will lay his head, but he sees an army and has a sword so it is good enough.
Does that make sense?
It makes sense and I like it. It adds a level that we often lack in hack and slash. For 30 years I have been playing without thinking much of daily upkeep and even encumberance for the most part. I like this realism and I like the idea of using FP for gold. I am reading the post you linked now. I belive some others in the group are of the same mind.
I am glad you see the reality involved, that is what I hope to set in the role-playing games I run (World of Medieval, Future Earth, Be A Super Hero, etc.) so it is not like a Montey Hall game show or a cartoon but as though you are there with the character head and head in whatever situation is at hand.
With regards to FP to Gold, it is now available. See the latest Update.
This might be a ridiculous question but where are the bodies of Tanar and Neihao now? We like totally lost track of them, yeah I know.
JB, my character is an herbalist and a beverage maker. I thought the two skills could work well in combination: using the knowledge of herbs to make teas and natural remedies for headaches and other light illnesses, for example. What would I need for that? Is there any set or I have to buy specific equipment (mortar&pestle, a small pot, alchemical tools or whatever?). Also, how can I know which herbs do what? We just focus on the desired result or I have to combine the herbs and see what happens?
