Comments: Sad Sad Sad. Thats what we as Trinidadians are. There are roads all over Trinidad that need paving, but only the route being taken by the delegates are being taken care of. Suddenly there is a larger show of police force, makes you wonder where they were all along, and where they will be in the next week. I live here and I fear for what this country will become, if only someone would realise and help us, but then again why would they. We do have oil though!
President Obama and Planned Parenthood Will Promote Abortion at Summit of the Americas
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood are expected to join forces to promote abortion at the fifth Summit of the Americas that begins in Trinidad tomorrow. The event is a chance for the leaders of the 35 members of the Organization of American States to gather, but it could be marked by a debate over abortion. President Obama will speak during Friday's opening ceremonies and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also be in attendance. While they will garner top headlines, a fight between pro-life advocates and the Planned Parenthood abortion business will take place below the surface. Marie Smith, the director of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues, tells LifeNews.com that pro-life advocates face well-orchestrated efforts by International Planned Parenthood (IPPF) and other pro-abortion organizations to insert pro-abortion language into the Summit's Declaration of Commitment. IPPF hopes to use the document as a stepping stone to advance abortion in the Caribbean and Latin American nations, most of which are strongly pro-life and prohibit abortions in all or most circumstances. One of the specific terms IPPF seeks to inject into the document is "sexual and reproductive health services" -- a term which can later be interpreted to include abortions. Smith told LifeNews.com that some representatives of the pro-life nations are expected to stand up to the attempt to covertly advance the abortion agenda using the innocuous language. Ref. Source 6
I want to hear how Manning will deal with the Abortion issue given his and others of the population's feelings about it. This is not the USA, but let's see if they will attempt to adopt some things.
Will Chavez behave himself or speak out of turn as he usually does? I will be monitoring all channels.
Culture takes centre stage
This nation takes centre stage globally this evening when the opening ceremony of the Fifth Summit of the Americas takes place at the Hyatt Regency from 5p.m. Newsfeeds the world over will broadcast the official arrival of the leaders of nations here to discuss ways through which we can weather the storms ahead, while continuing to develop and accomplish the unified greatness the Americas aspire towards. Well what the Summit will do is highlight this small country a little more and paint an illusion that we are capable of having 34 leaders of the Americas in our country safely. It will not highlight the true issues though. The current Prime Minister seeks to make Trinidad & Tobago a first world nation by 2020 - main problem for me is the level of thinking here does not meet that requirement. The best example I can give of that... Are the people in the slums of New York part of a first world nation? This is not to discredit anyone in the slums, my point is to say that 'prettying up' a few places where delegates will pass is just a cover for what the country is really like.
