Is it true that Sea Coral can be Poisonous?

I did not think there was poisonous coral but a quick search has proven my thought wrong. Fire coral apparently releases toxic gas that is dangerous to humans.

Well it is a good thing I have not gone to look at any Coral yet. I will remember this if I get to the coral reefs. *makes note Do not touch or eat the red stuff* Ok I am good now.

Comments: Many corals are very poisonous. In fact the zoanthids (which many people keep in reef tanks) contain palytoxin and are in fact the most dangerous animal (pound for pound) on earth.

Many corals also participate in a type of chemical warfare when they feel threatened. The likely hood of being killed is remote for the average human in the open ocean as long as you do not come in direct contact with the actual coral or floating coral frags, however there is still danger.
