Who gave you your first name?

Have you ever asked the question... "How did I get my name?" Maybe it was mom's decision or dad's? Maybe they let the local minister choose your name? If you answer 'other' please state who 'other' is...

From Deseret News:

WHAT TO NAME A NEWBORN? DEBATE STILL PERSISTS
Even before he and his wife had their first baby, Kelly and Valerie Kadlec of
Phoenix had a good idea of what they might want to name her.

My mom gave me my first name.  But my dad had to change it, because he  wanted to use the  English version of my name.  (He said that he didn't want kids to poke fun at me while I was in school) wink.gif

Who gave you your first name? Reviews Consumer & Travel Family Culture

My mother claims she heard Frank Sinatra on the radio singing the song "Tina Marie" while she was on her way to the hospital to deliver me. She spelled it Tena, because I am special. wink.gif

Yet, from my father's side of the family the story is my uncle named me. So, who knows, certainly not me. *smile*

name your gave Who

My name came from some little old lady. My mother was at the park watching my cousin on the swings. This lady with there too. They got to talking and somehow there was a mention of my name. My mom loved the name and it became mine.

My mom named me after two different people. One was her boss at the time who she really liked. The second was her favorite actor's first name.

Offtopic but,
Now, you may be asking why my mom was smitten with her boss when she was getting ready to have a baby. Well, my father walked out on her before I was born. Maybe a bit too much info for here, but just wanted to set the record straight in case anyone had questions about that.

It surprises me how popular Jacob is, seeing that I don't know many Jacobs. For girls, I didn't think Hannah was that popular either. Any names you expected to see or not see on the list?

Who gave your name

My mother had heard the name several times and liked it, but when a character walked on her soap opera with the name... it stuck.

My husband and I mutually agreed on the name of our son.. Austin, it was the first name we spoke about, and it never changed the whole pregnancy. I'm actually surprised it's not on the list of most popular names.. he had two other Austins in his day care when he started.

My aunty (who was 12 at the time) was on her way to the hospital to give my father the name that my grandparents had chosen for me when she came across her uncle and after getting the news bought so many gifts for her to bring to the hospital that she decided because of this kind gesture she told my Dad that I was to be named after their uncle and not their eldest brother of whom my baby brother is now named after.
