US Christens '9/11 steel' warship
A US warship built with steel salvaged from the World Trade Center is christened in Louisiana.

I am sure that this ship will mean a lot to the men and women that serve on it.
In the article they make mention that State names are usually set-aside for submarines. Nuclear Guided Missile Cruisers can also be named after states according to the current precedent. Seems like the naming process has not seemed to matter much to the Navy lately anyway.
Obviously to name it the USS New York seems fitting though. The current naming precedent for an Amphibious Transport ship is to name them after cities honoring pioneers. I guess it wouldn't make sense to name a ship with steel from Ground Zero after Salt Lake or some other western city.

What will be nice is to see this ship up against some of the terrorists in the world, I call it poetic justice at its' best.
