Now is that because they actually have to get up to have breakfast? laugh.gif

Sorry, when I saw the headline I was the first thing that came to my mind! My mother always complained about us as teenagers about getting up for school.

Skipping Breakfast Health & Special Psychology

It is true if you do not eat something for breakfast then your body does not full wake up and it stays in starvation mode until you eat something. The best way to lose weight is to have six eating periods in a day. Make these eating periods light snacks with few calories and you will lose weight. This idea is keeping your body in a high production as you burn more calories because your body knows more fuel is coming. Those who eat six times a day have shown to lose more weight than those dieting eating only three times a day. Plus those eating six times have shown to stick to their diets better and not 'cheat' as those who do not.

Oh yes, I can relate to this. As a teenager, I remember at one time, I kept skipping breakfast, in order to lose a few pounds. I felt awful during the morning period and I always looked forward to lunch time. To cut a long story short, I actually gained weight because I ate very greedily during my lunch hour since I was so ravenous! Then, I decided to try eating Raisin bran for breakfast and I felt more alert during my classes and I actually began to lose a little bit of weight. Now I usually advise people to ensure that they eat a good breakfast because it is indeed, the most important meal of the day!

You are correct there Geenie. Breakfast gets your body off starvation mode. From there you can eat what you want and lose weight as long as your calorie intake is less than your calorie output. That is the biggest thing in losing weight intake < output = weight losss intake > output = weight gain. It is simple math.

I find that if I don't eat breakfast, I tend to snack out on more food than normal, so would agree that breakfast is an important start to the day...I just can't face it too early!

If you find that you snack a lot try to snack on negative calorie foods. Negative calorie foods are those that your body uses more calories to digest them than they give. A good example is Celery or plain lettuce. My kids call lettuce crunchy water. If you do a search on negative calorie foods you can get a more complete list. smile.gif

The name tells all about the purpose of breakfast, it is in fact "break" and "fast", so you are "breaking" your "fast". During the last 9-10 hours of sleep your body did not eat anything.
