New Hampshire Govt Ranked Worst in US, Pro-Life Group Cites Abortion Law
Concord, NH (LifeNews.com) -- A new study by the Pew Charitable Trust has rated the government of New Hampshire as the worst in the United States. A statewide pro-life group there says the rating comes as no surprise because, while dozens of states have laws on the books requiring parental notification or consent on abortion, New Hampshire recently repealed its statute. As a result, parents are left in the dark and teenagers can have a secret abortion without their knowledge or consent. The Pew's Government Performance Project gave the Granite State government the only D+ in its report. Only one state came close to the bottom of the barrel: Rhode Island, which received a C minus. Roger Stenson, the head of New Hampshire Citizens for Life, told LifeNews.com on Wednesday that he's not surprised by the state's last-in-the-nation rating. "The Pew metric illuminates consequences that manifest the government's attitude," said Stenson. "The way our government treats our families, each individual family, is the most important of the consequences." He said the policy decision of heaviest consequence is last year's repeal of the state's parental notice of abortion law. Passed in 2003, the law required abortion providers to notify just one parent of a minor girl before doing an abortion on her.
