OK it was a interesting day.
First off my car is fixed now. I guess the only problem that my mechanic could find is a bad wire that was on the negative post of the battery. I am glad it was not the alternator. I did learn something though. Todays cars are cheaply made especially in the alternator.
See when I was growing up the alternator was a generator as it produced electricity to run the vehicles lights and other electrical stuff like the spark plugs. This is because the alternator had magnets in them that allowed it to produce electricity. In the cars we have nowadays there is no real magnet in them. They need to have a charge from your battery to charge a electro magnet so the alternator produces electricity. This means that if you have a drained battery your car will not run period. Even if your able to jump it. I think that this sucks. I am thinking of replacing the electro magnets with real magnets so the car will run better. Only problem is the alternator is too hard to get at. I guess I will pay this one off and get a new car.
I also got a station wagon that has been sitting in my yard running. I knew it had brake problems but I found it had fuel problems too. It was spraying fuel on the engine. That was not good. My son replaced the plugs and wires and had a couple of them crossed. I got it to my mechanic and had him fix all of this. It has brakes and runs a lot better now. I am back to having 5 running vehicles. I have a friend who is going to buy the station wagon that is why I got it up and running.
My wife had her first treatment of her third round. She talked to her doctor last night and they want to schedule a MRI sometime in the first part of Dec. She also has an appointment with her doctor on the 16th to be able to view the results of the MRI and how the cancer is doing while she is getting Chemo. This will tall us how she is doing over all. I am hoping for some great news.
Well we have now completed three treatments. She is in good spirits and is planning to have a great Thanksgiving that is coming up in a couple days now. The house is almost ready for the influx of guests. We will get her her shot to help her blood count today. I am just waiting for it to show up. It is normally here about 1pm. SHe will have three weeks off before we start round four. Her doctor wants her the get a MRI to see how the cancer is reacting to the Chemo. If the reaction is good then we should finish the six rounds. IF the reaction is not so good then we may have to get a different type of chemo and have even more treatments. I am hoping that the treatments are working. She is looking forward to being done with all this in Feb.
Her latest reaction to her treatments is night sweats. SHe is sleeping with a fan on her through the night because she is sweating so much. I hope that this is something that goes away soon. She is not sleeping well at night because of this. Wednesday still seems to be her real down day. She is taking Wednesday off work and we both have thursday off so by Friday she should be feeling much better. I get over time on Friday so I am looking forward to it. I know I will not be going to any of the early sales this year.
I wonder how the stores will do. Are they going to see a increase or decrease in spending this year. Time will tell I guess.
Well this was a interesting week for me. I think my wife over did herself by working Wednesday and then cooking most of the day Thursday. She was soo worn out on Friday that I told her to go to bed. She slept in today so she has gotten plenty of sleep. I have told her she needs to take Wednesdays off after she has treatments because that has proven to be her down day. Any time she has tried to work on Wednesday she has been really down and out of it for the rest of the week. I do not think the treatments are going to get any easier now that she has them half over. Most of the things I have read on Chemotherapy is that it gets harder and harder as time goes through. I feel that she will have a harder time of it over the next three treatments. The good thing is that she has three weeks off now. Her next treatment is not until the 22nd of Dec. I hope that means she has an extra week of recovery time and therefore can better take the next three treatments.
We did have a nice Thanksgiving with friends and family. I helped her in the kitchen most of the day. She did all that she could by sitting at the table and getting things ready for me to place in the oven between my cooking of things. I peeled the 10+ lbs of potatoes for her. All in all it was a very enjoyable day hanging out together as we prepared a very good meal that everyone seemed to enjoy. We hope to be able to pull another one off on Christmas day. I just have to make sure that she relaxes and does not do anything on the 24th with is the Wednesday after her next treatment. I get to be home all day so I will make sure she stays home and stays in bed.
Well the month of December has started off right in my book. Sunday night we got about 3 inches of snow to start the season out looking nice and white. Of course my wife does not like the snow but I do and I can have it three of the 12 months I think. She is like most of the people I talk to around here. They want it to snow the 24th of December and melt by the 26th. I think that is just plain rude.
I try to tell people that snow is very good for us. Not only does it look nice and make the trees look pretty but it is actually good to have. You see the snow we get covers the dirt of the fields. This keeps the wind from blowing it away and as the snow starts to melt it provides moisture. This helps the ground water to rise and gives our crops a nice base to draw from as they start out growing. Even after I tell people this they stare blankly back at me and go on like I did not say a thing. I am so well listened too.
The latest news on my wife. She has to go in for a CT scan on Monday to see how things are going. After this she next has MRI can to look at her abdomen on Thursday. After all of these are done we have a doctors appointment on the 16th to see if and how the chemo is working. My wife is very nervous about these scans as she thinks the chemo is not working and that her cancer has spread. I try to keep her in good sprits and have told her not to worry about what the cancer is doing until we know for sure. It is going to be a interesting Two weeks now.
At least today and tomorrow we are doing Christmas shopping for the kids.
Well all the scans are done so now it is just a matter of waiting til the 16th when we meet with the doctor. We will find out whether the treatments have done anything. She is worried that the treatments will have done nothing and that she will have to go on a stronger and longer doses of Chemo. I can not blame her for feeling this way as the cancer is a radiation and chemo resistant strain. I still say the fact that it was growing in a preradiated area is not a good thing. I guess we just have to wait and see what the doctor says and go from there.
I want to thank you all who are praying for her. She is very humbled as am I with the outpouring of love and support that has been sent her and our way.
The results are in and We both want to thank all of you whop have kept us in your prayers. We want to thank you because it is working. Both scans show that the cancer has not moved or spread. It also shows that the mass has shrunk approximately 1/3 of the size it was before. This is good news for the holidays. HE doctor wants to continue the chemo for the remaining three treatments and then reevaluate her again in March. We hope that this will put another end to this part of our lives. We are sure to have six month check ups after this is all over if things keep going the way they are.
It has been a long week for me. Ok it has been more than a week. My wife has had her two chemo treatments for the month. Now we have only two months or four treatments to go. We are hoping that at the end of the treatments that the cancer cells are down to the point that they may try to cyberknife it out. They did not want to try that the way the mass was around her urethure. I am hoping that it continues to shrink and that we beat this once again.
I am on my second week of being off work. I got to tell you the weekend and the days before Christmas was very busy for me as we did all we could to make sure that everything fit into place. My little brother came to town the 20th of December so I spent that night Sunday and Monday hanging out with him. We had our families Christmas at my parents house on the 23rd. The 24th my little brother headed out in a Ice storm to St Louis Mo. where his wifes parents live. HE said the weather improved once he hit the missouri line. We were glad he made it down there ok.
We had our Christmas on the morning of the 25th like most people. The kids once again made out like bandits. I am glad that they were able to get most of what they wanted. By the looks of things this may not happen next year. At least they are not in the need of things right now.
I hope that you all had a great Christmas and I am here to wish you all a very happy new year.
