My goodness, I am glad Social Services took him and his little sister out of the care of their "mother". This is terrible. He could have been killed! When you read news like that it makes you really upset to know that these people can have kids and so many others cannot.

When I hear stories like this, I wonder about the circumstances. Was the mother sleeping off a hangover? Or perhaps she is a single parent who was home from working a double shift somewhere? Either way, it is no excuse for neglecting her children, but perhaps one would make it a little more understandable.
